  i've come to a new conclusion about myself, this board and communication in general: i don't need to respond, elaborate, explain or otherwise defend myself to other people.

  most notably on this board, of course.

  The Org and my marriage

  well, it looks like the jehovah's witnesses are going to start intruding in my marriage again.. a little background, when i first met my husband he was going to meetings sporadically.

  he has studied off and on for years but was never baptized so he's always been in the "love bombing" stage with them.

  he believes most of the doctrines (no christmas although he lets me celebrate it, the trinity is wrong, etc.

  I feel for you. Being DA'd myself, my Regular Pioneering JW wife views me as the debil. You can't do a damn thing right, and anything that is going wrong in their life is somehow your fault.

  You mentioned that:

  He is also the only person in his entire family remotely connected to the JW's. His daughters are grown and want nothing to do with it.

  One thing I'm trying, that was succeeding for a short while anyways, was recruiting her non-JW family behind the scenes to help me to wake her up.

  Is his family willing to help you out? Do they ever have spiritual discussions with him? Now may be a good time to have his family show an interest in his renewed quest of going back to the KH. You probably will not be able to reach him because he knows you thoughts on the matter, but maybe someone in the family can pose as a "prospective JW convert" and cozy up to him? Write emails, cards, phone calls, anything?

  He announced yesterday he wants to start back again because he knows it's the Truth and it would help him.

  Help him with what?

  My biggest dilemma is keeping my mouth shut. .... He is unwilling to listen to any information I have. I know I come across too firmly convicted but he won?t budge an inch.

  You will be better off hitting your head against a brick wall. You will do less damage to your marriage hitting a brick wall rather than discussing these matters with him.

  You both now know [nice of him to switch gears like this] where each other stands, so running around in circles with it will do no one any good. God knows I initially tried to "reason" with my wife and she goes from Dr. Jeckel to Mr. Hyde in no time flat. Reasoning, logic, and viewpoint questions are not met well at all. I was told by my wife to stop asking her viewpoint questions. I was a good Regular Pioneer, so I guess the WTS trained me a little to well

  I also know how time consuming it will be for him. This is going to drive a huge wedge in our relationship. So much of a wedge, that combined with other factors, I don?t see much of a future for us.

  In the infamous words of Bill, "Baby, you ain't kidding"

  You couldn't be more right on this if you tried.

  It will be a HUGE wedge. No offense pink, but this isn't a little hobby like bowling with the boys once a week. Being a JW is a full-time obsession that takes over your mind and spirit.

  Letting your husband start the JW thing back up again and going to five meetings a week is no more dangerous that letting your husband visit a brothel 5 times a week. You will have to let a third person into your sacred marriage bond. The third cord of 'God' will be replaced by the Governing Body, and they will have their noses into every aspect of your life.

  You gotta nip this in the bud. The longer this goes on, the deeper his connection will become with the WTS and the les likely you will be able to save him.

  he knows it's the Truth and it would help him.

  Find out in the answer to this question, and let his family members work on him NOW [and you discreetly behind the scenes] and you may gain two rewards in the end:

  1. Getting your husband back
  2. Answering a spiritual question for your husband that has been haunting him for decades.

  Are we having an impact on the WTS?

  thanks to pro-active people like simon i do believe we have an impact on the wts.

  i think ex-witnesses are better adjusted and recover quicker because of these web sites.

  i know i was able to deprogram and come to terms with being in that cult for 24 years much quicker than being divorced after 15 years.

  I agree. It's a form of group therapy for us. And the quicker we recover, the smaller chance we have of being sucked back into that high-control group.

  Now if I could just find an Internet forum to help me with my additiction to DB's

  Is this legal?

  if a former jw decided to put on a suit and tie and go door to door trying to place old wt magazines and books they had laying around, and asking for a small donation, but using the proceeds to buy beer, is that illegal in any way?

  Even when we grow up and leave the JWs...finding those pieces of ourselves is difficult

  I fully agree with this.

  Damage is done by shackling people in a perpetual state of "Arrested Development." You never get to develop as a young adult when you are raised in as a JW. To make your own mistakes.

  I feel like an 18 year kid stuck in a 33 year old's body. "13 going on 30" for you pop-culture buffs out there.

  It stinks. I look back and think of where I am in life, and I feel 15 years behind a typical adults timeline. And it takes a long time to undo that self-doubting voice that has been programmed deep down.

  I think that many of the bad JW parents that can be found in the WTS only amplify this problem, sending many kids on a bad trajectory in life that is hard to recover from

  Name Things That You Can Be Counseled For

  For quite a few years my life just wasn't complete unless I was being dragged into the 'back room" to meet with the elders.

  Geebuz, where should I start?

  1. Having a 2 door car
  2. for being in a hotel room with 5 other JW's, but one was female [I was up for being an MS, and her family complained that I shouldn't be one. I was anyways]
  3. my girlfriend wore to a JW wedding a dress that was red and too tight and too short. I heard about this for months after the elders meeting. You know they were jealous
  4. for listening to 'rock' music
  5. I DJ'd JW weddings and was CONSTANTLY counseled by elders not to play hard, fast music. I finally figured out that it was just better to instead play slow songs and then dance with their daughter's
  6. Seeing 'R' rated movies
  7. Playing 'Lazer Tag'. Too much like war
  8. Playing "Risk" and other 'war' board games. I aske dif it's ok to play chess if I can't play war games. That wasn't met too well
  9. For Dreaming. I chit you not. I was pulled into an elders meeting after the Sunday WatchTower because the elders wanted to talk to me about what I have been dreaming about. At the time my friend and I were reading a book about 'Lucid Dreaming'. It was pretty cool. Word got around that we were praticing 'illicit dreaming', which is not even close. The elders felt stupid about bringing it up, but then when they found out what it really was, they told us the Lucid Dreaming could open our minds to demons and that we should stop
  10. Underage Drinking
  11. For having a 'skater' hair cut [The muffin head thing]
  12. For having hair that is too spiky
  13. Hair that is too long
  14. For putting blond streaks in my hair
  15. For dying my entire head of hair red. Come to think of it, I was never counseled on this, but then again I was a MS and the only guy Regular Pioneer, so they looked the other way I guess
  16. For having 'BA'. You mean B.O. I asked? No, "Bad Attitude"
  17. For inviting 120 underage JW's to a flyer party that took place at a local bar that I rented to watch a "Battle of the Bands" between 4 JW bands. A few parents showed up to watch us, said we did really well. I rented a cop to watch over everyone to make sure there was no underage drinking. My elders had a coronary arrest over it. It serioulsy never occured to me that there was anything wrong with what I did, otherwise why would I mail out 120 flyers? I still say my band was the best.

  Strange disfellowshippings!

  a few years back a 'sister' in our hall was df'd for marrying a disfellowshipped man.

  they were both free to remarry 'scripturally' - in their late-middle years of life.

  i asked one of the local pharrasies why?

  Who would be so stupid as to go and tell the elders what 'you've been up to' when you're courting.

  Uggghhhhhh..... count my wife & I

  3 weeks before the wedding my wife gets the idea to have a 'clean slate' before we are married to confess to the elders what we have been up to so that we can have jehover's blessing on our marriage.

  You read right, THREE weeks before the wedding

  What a mess that was!

  She & I confessed to 'dry humping'. We may not have been wearing too many clothes whenever this happened

  Conclusion? We were found guilty of loose conduct. We were both privately reproved. Then the elder who was scheduled to give our wedding talk bailed on us. I begged another elder in my KH to give our talk and he obliged, thank god. The wedding was never to be in the KH, but an outdoor wedding at a Botanical Garden, so that was never an issue.

  Looking back on that, I can't believe I put myself through that.
